Balikpapan - Chemical Engineering Study Program students, Kalimantan Institute of Technology won 2nd place in the Scientific Paper Competition Indonesia Chemical Engineering Event (I-CHALLENGE) 2022. The title of the innovation that was raised was THE UTILIZATION OF A. ferrooxidans FROM MINE ACID WASTE WATER AS METAL RECOVERY FOR LITHIUM AND COBALT.
2 students from the 2018 class, namely Ikram Al Fajri and Rifki Ardika Putra, won a silver medals in this scientific competition after defeating 10 leading teams from other universities who were finalists selected from hundreds of other ideas selected at the National level. Under the guidance of Mr. Asful Hariyadi, M.Eng and funding from LPPM ITK, they completed this project within 4 months. This event was hosted by Brawijaya University, Malang.
"Alhamdulillah, thank God for this achievement. These ideas stem from our interest in the issue of Acid Mining Water which is troubling. After discussing with our supervisor who turned out to have an interest in energy research, finally came the idea to trying to recycle used laptop batteries with organic acids from Acid Mining Water ." - Ikram thread
"The novelty here is the use of A. ferrooxidans bacteria which we are trying to isolate from AAT which then works to extract Cobalt and Lithium metals at the cathode of used batteries" - continued by Rifki
Congratulations on the achievement!
